Digi-Pak Idea

After analyzing the CD covers of Limp Bizkit's studio album discography, I have defined the conventions found between them (Can be found in the 'Limp Bizkit CD Covers' blog entry).
For my digi-pak, I am plannning on making a 6 panel product, which will have a similar structure to this 6 panel digi-pak;


The front panel
Will be a mugshot, with a solitary character stood against a striped measuring wall, holding a board (which in the tradition of mugshots, usually entails the criminals name, police stations location etc.) which has the bands name and CD title on it, aswell as the bands home town (as place of arrest). The bands name will be above the CD title and both will be in upper case simple font. The character will be dressed in black, in contrast to the white background of the measuring wall. The character will also have there face pixelated, as to hide their identity.
This first panel follows the following conventions found in other Limp Bizkit CD covers;

• The bands name is almost always above the CD title.
• In every CD cover of Limp Bizkits albums, there has near always been one solitary character who's face is masked in some way as the covers main focus point.
• The bands name has always either been in bold/lower case graffiti style font or simple lower case font.
• The CD title has nearly always been in simple lower case font.
• The cover background nearly always emphasises the covers character.
• The bands name and CD title are always located in either the middle or right of the cover.
• There is sometimes a contrast of colour between the background and either the character or cover text.

Another slight convention that should be mentioned, is that on Limp Bizkit's 'Results May Vary' album, although made unrecognizable by the shadows and green tint, is actually the face of the bands vocalist. So as to follow the same idea, the character on the cover of my digi-pak will be the bands vocalist who is seen in the music video.

The make-shift mugshot board that I will use for the front panel image will contain some mugshot board conventions and will entail the following;

POLICE DEPT DUVAL COUNTY FL : A reference to Limp Bizkit's home town Jacksonville.
LIMP BIZKIT : The bands name.
CRIMINAL PROTECTION PROGRAM : The CD title.
12-14-10 : An apparent arrest date, but is infact the CD's release date.
7369432 : A random ID number.

Mugshot Board Conventions:
-Location of place of arrest e.g. POLICE DPT TRAVIS COUNTY TX
-The Date of arrest e.g. Nov 3 1970/ 11-3-70
-ID number e.g. 7369432
-Height & Weight e.g. 5'8" 225lbs

...and pixelating the face like this.


I like to think that the title 'Criminal Protection Programme' is very fitting for such an image, giving a very ironic connotation.











Second Panel
This will be the next panel that is seen after the front panel is turned over. Much like the first panel, the second panel will be the blurred out mugshot, just this time it will be a sideways shot of the character.

Third Panel
This will be the panel that is on the other side of the first panel. It will, like the rest of the panels, have the striped measuring wall as its background. The panel will include a large image of the music video cast band posing for the camera.

Fourth Panel
This is the centre panel of the inside of the digipak and is the panel to the right of the third panel. Like the others, this panel will use the striped measuring wall as a background. This will be the panel that will suspend the CD, with its center a circular hub of teeth which grip the disc by its hole, effectively suspending the disk in the middle of the digi-pak, preventing the recording surface from being scratched.

Fifth Panel
This will be the panel on the other side of the second panel and is to the right of the fourth panel. This like all the others will use the striped measuring wall as a background. This panel will include a few images of stills taken from performance segment footage.

Sixth Panel

This will be the very back panel of the digi-pak, inbetween the First and Second Panels. Again, this panel will use the striped measuring wall as a background aswell as a guideline for the track listing of the album. This panel will also include studio, copyright data and other information.
