Magazine Advert Idea

The main concept of my magazine advert is a parody of the iconic cover of the Abbey Road album by The Beatles.

From analysing a few music CD and DVD adverts, I've found the following conventions:
  • The adverts were all found in music magazines that cater to the genre of the album.
  • An image of the product (DVD/CD) is shown in the advert.
  • An image of the artist is shown in the advert, usually as the background.
  • The artists name/logo is shown, being quite large as to emphasise to the reader who the product is by.
  • The product title is shown, not as prominent as the artists name/logo, but more prominent than most of the other content in the advert.
  • Include a brief summary of the products content and bonus content.
  • Includes quotes from a few favourable reviews fom prestigious magazines of the products genre.
  • Includes the icon and web address of a popular music retailer along the bottom of the advert.
  • Includes the logo of the artists record label as well as both the label and the artists web address.

In my magazine advert, I will include a number of the aforementioned conventions. The background image of the advert will be a photo of the music video band cast crossing a zebra crossing as to mimic the iconic Abbey Road album cover, although the band will be carrying melee weapons, will bewalking across the road much more slouched and casual and the guitarist will be wearing his signature skull mask as to put the bands music genre of nu metal's own twist on the symbolic cover.
